Marshall opened the Tony Gibson era on Aug. 30, 2025 at Sanford Stadium, where No. 5 Georgia won 45-7 in front of 93,033. The Thundering Herd avoided a shutout with 10:27 to play, covering 84 yards in seven plays.

There was no overnight stay in Georgia. A Sun Country Boeing 737-800 chartered for the trip left Athens-Ben Epps at 9:24 p.m. ET and reached Huntington Tri-State at 10:07 p.m. The same jet had flown the reverse route into Athens two days earlier, a round trip that appears in the Transportation Department's charter filings for the airport that August.

Those filings name the carrier and the route. They do not list the travel party, so how many players and staff made the trip is not part of the public record.
