The BMW Championship is the strongest public explanation for N1989R’s Aug. 17 arrival in St. Louis. The McIlroy-linked Gulfstream reached the tournament city from Palm Beach three days before play began at Bellerive Country Club.

PGA TOUR material placed McIlroy in the Aug. 20–23 field and described him entering the second playoff event after completing the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

A separate Aug. 20 multi-stop movement from St. Louis remains unresolved. The ownership chain supports an aircraft-level McIlroy association, but no source identifies a passenger on either movement.
