How to read these rankings
These are named aviation-specific payments in Form 990 contractor and related-party schedules. They are not complete aviation budgets: the contractor schedule generally lists only the five highest-paid contractors above its reporting threshold, while Schedule L covers only interested-person transactions.
A missing school or year means no qualifying disclosure is in this corpus, not zero aviation spending. Schools can own aircraft, use vendors below the filing threshold, pay through another entity, or record costs inside broader travel, recruiting, maintenance, and operating accounts.
Entity and accounting labels matter. Athletics-association payments are closer to comparable program spending; university-wide arrangements can include presidential, trustee, donor, or administrative travel. Oregon's figure is prepaid airfare rather than measured usage, and Florida's West Star line is aviation maintenance rather than charter.
